Space-Saving Tricks for Small Apartments
By: Cait Reizman and Matt Cummins
Bunnies may be small, but their stuff can take up a lot of space! Here are our top three tips for sharing your tiny home with your tiniest friends:
1. Embrace vertical space.
Tall, metal shelves and cabinets like these are chew-proof and let you store more with less footprint. Remember not to put any precious belongings on shelves within bunny reach!
2. Go free-roam.
Instead of surrendering 16+ square feet to an x-pen, bunnyproof your home so your rabbit can roam freely.
You’ll want to have a no- or low-pile area rug so your rabbit has traction to get around.
Gradually increasing the penned space rather than taking the pen away all at once can help your bunny keep up with their litter box habits.
Enjoying room to stretch with the free-roam life.
3. Optimize your use of nooks and crannies.
Choose furniture that has built-in storage.
Stow items in your pet carrier when you’re not using it.
Store hay in cardboard boxes that fit on your shelves (we love the 10lb Small Pet Select boxes).
Got gaps around furniture or corners that are useless to you? Turn them into cozy spots for your bunny to tuck in by laying out material for traction (like a piece of fleece orno-pile carpet square), or squeeze in a hidey house. Just make sure it’s a space you can access if you need to retrieve your rabbit in case of emergency.
There wasn’t much we could put in this corner with the heater there. But with something soft to lie on, it became a perfect spot for bunny naps.
