Your support makes this work possible

It’s amazing how much the world of rabbit care has grown in just the last few years, and your support of House Rabbit Society helps make that growth possible. The need for rabbit education and medical care has never been greater, and we’re rising to meet that need in powerful ways. Through our educational and medical programs, we’re training the next generation of rabbit-savvy veterinarians and equipping guardians around the world with the knowledge they need to give rabbits safe, healthy, and happy lives.

You can help ensure this progress continues. Please consider making a gift to House Rabbit Society today at houserabbit.org/donate. Your support gives rabbits everywhere a brighter future and sustains life-saving programs with a global impact, such as:

Several years ago, when the pandemic shifted how we connected with our community, we moved our education program online. Thanks to donor support, we were able to launch free Zoom classes and bring vital rabbit care information to a wider audience than ever before.

That shift has grown into a cornerstone of our mission. Already in 2025, we’ve hosted over 100 online classes, reaching rabbit guardians around the world and helping them become more confident and compassionate caregivers. Whether someone is brand new to rabbits or a longtime rabbit lover, there’s something for everyone.

Our current class lineup includes:

  • Rabbit care 101, which covers the basics of caring for a house rabbit

  • Introducing rabbits, a starter guide for bonding rabbits

  • Rabbit behavior, to learn how to strengthen the human-rabbit bond

  • Pet loss support, a safe, supportive group led by a certified therapist

  • Cats & rabbits, about helping these species live in harmony together* (fee required)

Thanks to a generous grant from Contra Costa County, we’ve expanded our educational resources to include Chinese, Tagalog, and Vietnamese translations—alongside English and Spanish—so that language is never a barrier to providing rabbits with the care they need to thrive. Flyers covering topics like rabbit diet, emergency care, and more are now available at houserabbit.org/shelter-assistance.

We’ve also created a new multilingual “Raising a Healthy House Rabbit” guidebook that goes into how to take care of a house rabbit in depth. All materials are free and accessible to anyone. We hope you’ll share these materials with anyone in your life who may benefit from learning about rabbits in their native language.

Through our shelter assistance program, we’re proud to share that so far this year we’ve mailed these educational materials to 88 shelters across all 50 U.S. states. Formally launched in 2024 in response to the post-pandemic surge in rabbit surrenders, the program is designed to support shelters and rescues in addressing and reducing rabbit surrenders. It provides animal welfare professionals with tools and resources to help rabbit owners address common challenges and hopefully resolve them before they become reasons to surrender the rabbit.

If you would like to request that your local animal shelter receive a sample packet of our educational flyers, please submit our shelter assistance request Google form. Priority will be given to shelters that have rabbits available for adoption.

Thanks to donor support, our veterinary training initiative continues to grow. As the only rabbit rescue in the U.S. with a staff veterinarian and on-site surgery suite, HRS is uniquely positioned to close the gap in rabbit-specific medical training.

So far in 2025, we’ve welcomed 44 veterinary professionals and students to train with our medical team at our facility. These trainees come from all over the world, from a veterinarian with a mobile practice in nearby San Francisco to a pre-vet student currently studying at Texas Tech University. We’ve even had several vet students studying in Scotland come to train with our medical team! Each participant in the program gains hands-on experience in rabbit medicine rarely offered elsewhere, taking those skills back to their own communities to improve care for rabbits everywhere.

Every week, our facility is filled with professionals and students eager to learn, whether it’s mastering safe handling techniques, understanding rabbit-specific anesthesia protocols, or gaining confidence in performing spay and neuter surgeries. It’s truly exciting and inspiring to witness this growing interest in rabbit medicine.

From everyone at HRS, thank you for helping these rabbits, and so many others! With your help, we can do even more! Please donate today if you're able. Help us make a lasting difference for rabbits in need. Every gift, no matter the size, helps build a brighter future for our rabbit friends.
