Special Needs Rabbit Highlight - Simone

Thanks to the support of our donors, we’re able to step in and help when rabbits like Simone Buniles need our help and give them the second chance they need and deserve.

Simone arrived at HRS in December after being transferred from a local shelter. She’s a tiny but mighty bunny—under four pounds—with a big personality. Despite multiple pelvic fractures and a splay leg, she doesn’t let anything slow her down! No medical intervention is needed at this time, but her ongoing care means she’s part of our Golden Ears program, which provides lifelong veterinary support to rabbits with special needs. Your recurring donations help make these life-saving programs possible!

Longtime foster volunteer Sheridan wasn’t sure what to expect when she took Simone in, but she quickly realized Simone was unlike any rabbit she had met before.

She shares, "I wasn’t sure what to expect when I agreed to foster Simone, but she immediately made an impression on me as possibly the most outgoing and happiest rabbit I have ever met. She instantly made herself at home and explored her cozy new space and started demanding I pet her by bumping her face into my hand. She doesn’t let her disability slow her down one bit! She's hilariously sassy and demands petting all the time, quickly scooting her way over to me every time I walk by her space, and I just can’t say no! She spends most of her time on her flower pillow and doesn’t move much during the day, really only to demand attention from me! She seemingly has a permanent smile on her face and she shows me how appreciative she is of the attention with some happy tooth-grinds and the cutest soft honking noise I can’t quite describe.

Like the real Simone Biles, she is absolutely fearless. Most rabbits are understandably timid around humans but Simone sees them as just more hands to feed and pet her! She doesn’t fully use a litter box (we're getting used to it now in foster care—it's a bit slippery for her), but she's very tidy with where she goes to the bathroom, so I just have to change out the pee pad once per day. She is non-destructive and not tempted to chew things she isn’t supposed to. She's the type of rabbit who will never get tired of being petted, making her the perfect companion for a movie night on her level (the floor) and emotional support animal with her special ability to brighten anyone’s day."
