Step 3

Our online Introducing Rabbit class will help you plan what to expect, how to set up and signs to look for when building a bond between the rabbits. Speed dating is available at our facility in order to help you find a rabbit that could be potential match for your rabbit. With our foster-to-adopt process, you are able to bring the new rabbit home and continue to work on strengthening the relationship with the pair before finalizing the adoption. Online Rabbit Bonding Support sessions are available for sign up to help pinpoint triggers and give a fresh perspective on your date in progress. If it turns out to not be a good fit, no problem! A return date can be scheduled for the rabbit and you are able to try more speed dates, take home another rabbit, or take a break until a later date.

FAQs

  • Available rabbits can be viewed here on our website or by visiting our facility at 148 Broadway in Richmond California.

    • All HRS rabbits are spayed/neutered.

    • All HRS rabbits are microchipped.

    • All HRS rabbits have had a veterinary exam.

    • All HRS rabbits are vaccinated for RHDV (Rabbit Hemorrhagic Disease Virus).

    • We provide a cardboard carrier.

    • Adoptions come with a 1-year HRS membership which gives discounts on HRS boarding, discounts on online shopping and a subscription to the HRS journal.

    • Adult Primary Caregiver: The rabbit’s primary caregiver is an adult, and is wanted by everyone in the household. No group ownership, like a classroom pet.

    • Indoor Housing: Rabbits adopted from House Rabbit Society live indoors as part of the family. Due to the emergence of Rabbit Hemorrhagic Disease Virus (RHDV) in 2020, we strongly recommend no outdoor playtime, even when vaccinated.

    • Returns: If you need to return a rabbit adopted from HRS, we ask for 2-4 weeks’ notice, so we can have a space ready for your rabbit to return. Rabbits adopted from HRS must be returned to HRS.

    • RHDV Vaccination: Vaccination of all rabbits in the household for RHDV  is required to bring home an HRS rabbit for bonding/adoption.

    • Spay/Neuter: All rabbits in the home must be spayed/neutered.

  • Your HRS rabbit will need an RHDV vaccination ever year. The rabbit’s next vaccination date will be indicated in their HRS medical record that is emailed upon adoption finalization.

  • No! We are able to give loaner supplies (such as an additional pen, litter box, and bowls) for you to utilize until the rabbits are fully bonded and living together. Supplies can be returned at your convenience.

  • HRS highly recommends setting up side by side puppy exercise pens in the same room during the bonding process. This allows for the rabbits to form a relationship and communicate even when active bonding/ relationship exercises are not taking place.

  • Every relationship is different. Some rabbits can be bonded and living together within a few days, while others may take a few months. On average, we find most rabbits are bonded and living together after 1 month of active bonding exercises.
